The World observes September 16 as International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer or World Ozone Day. The day marks the anniversary of the Montreal Protocol, which was signed to keep in check Ozone depleting substances. Ozone is the protective layer that shields us from harmful radiations of the sun.
Theme of this year was “Montreal Protocol – Keeping us, our food, and vaccines cool”
Mass plantation program in mines area was organized to create awareness about the protection of the ozone layer. Essay competition and online quiz competition were also organized to mark the celebration.
GHCL has framed a phase wise program for ozone depleting substance in line with the ICAP (India Cooling action plan) by Ozone Cell, Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change. We plan to reduce HCFCs by converting total 278 AC refrigerant from R22 to R32 and converting 34 air conditioning system refrigerant from R22 to R407c by year 2032.
